Analysis: GOP foes seek cracks in Perry's record

Rick Perry's bid for the Republican presidential nomination will rise or fall on his 10-year record as Texas governor

Perry withstands scrutiny, spirited exchanges with Republican rivals, in debate

In some ways, it was a night of political déjà vu.

In their second face-off in less than a week, Rick Perry and Mitt Romney kicked off Monday night's Republican presidential debate in Florida just as they did last week's forum in New Hampshire, with a spirited debate over the future of Social Security.

FACT CHECK: Social Security prompts debate miscues

Rick Perry 1.0 thought Social Security was a "disease" inflicted on the population by the federal government.

Obama still believes he can get the GOP to work with him on a jobs program. Yeah. And the Tooth Fairy will arrange the compromise. And then- cookies! - Will Durst

To Create A Palestinian State or Not?

Jordan's King Abdullah II, one of Israel's few remaining close allies in the Muslim world, said in remarks obtained Monday that the uprisings sweeping Arab nations have put the Jewish state in a difficult position. He also hotly rejected the notion that his country should take in Palestinians as a substitute for the creation of a state for them.

Republican Shenanigans

"According to the latest L.A. Times poll, 75% of Californians believe the country is headed in the wrong direction. And 60% of Californians are so disillusioned, they're thinking about moving back to Mexico." –Jay Leno

The Stock Market Casino Can't  Settle Down

The stock market just can’t seem to make up its mind.

Day after day, stocks swing sharply by hundreds of points. Last week they tumbled 3 percent in the first 90 minutes of trading on Tuesday morning, then on Wednesday closed nearly 3 percent higher and dropped almost 3 percent on Friday. All of this on the heels of unusual back-to-back 4 percent leaps and dives in one week in August.

Business News

Clergy sex abuse victims upset that no high-ranking Roman Catholic leaders have been prosecuted for sheltering guilty priests brought their claims Tuesday to the International Criminal Court, seeking an investigation of the pope and top Vatican cardinals for possible crimes against humanity.

Stolen Rembrandt reveals new mystery

After recovering the 11-by-6 inch drawing called "The Judgment," authorities aren't sure whether it really is a Rembrandt or if it even belongs to the art dealer that displayed it with other works at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Marina del Rey. The Los Angeles Sheriffs department displays the recovered $250,000 quill pen Rembrandt drawing known as "The Judgment" at a news conference, Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, in Marina Del Rey, Calif. Authorities said early Tuesday they had recovered the Dutch master's 17th century sketch at a San Fernando Valley church, about 20 miles from the luxury hotel lobby where it was stolen over the weekend from a private art display while a curator was momentarily distracted by someone who seemed interested in buying another piece.  Photo/Gus Ruelas
