JACKSONVILLE -- Bill McBride compared Jeb Bush to a careless orange picker and
told a statewide television audience Friday night that Bush has failed to show
the leadership needed to earn a second term as governor.

JACKSONVILLE -- Education stole the spotlight in round one between Democrat Bill
McBride and Republican Jeb Bush, with each lobbing sharp criticism at the
other’s approach to improving public schools, during the first televised debate
of the governor’s race.
Bush repeatedly painted McBride as a liberal lawyer, too close to teachers’
unions, too eager to raise taxes and too vague on how he’ll pay for his
promises.

Gov. Jeb Bush's lead over his Democratic challenger shrank to just six
percentage points with less than six weeks to go before Floridians choose their
next governor, according to poll results published on Thursday.
