Bush Doesn't Know Why Stock Sale Was Reported Late

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush on Monday said he did not know why his 1990 sale of Harken Energy Corp stock was disclosed eight months late but denied wrongdoing in a news conference dominated by questions about the oil company and the wave of recent accounting scandals.

Ari Fleischer, the president's spokesman, acknowledged some of the paperwork required to disclose the 1990 sale of <Harken stock >was filed more than eight months late. He insisted the oversight was the fault of Harken lawyers required to fill out the forms, but Mr Bush has said the forms must have been lost by the SEC.
