Where have all the Democrats gone?

Lisa

Dear Lisa:
First let me say I love All Hat No Cattle, keep up the good work!! Last night I got home grabbed a tall boy and the mail, threw the bills on the pile and read the interesting stuff. The most interesting thing I received yesterday was a letter from my congressman Tom Osborne, you might remember him as the football coach who the lead the Nebraska Cornhusker to back to back national football championships which is what got him elected to congress. In Nebraska football is more important than intelligent politicians. The letter was in response to a petition I signed on Move On.org against financing for the Robust Nuclear Earth Penetractor Weapon. The weapon is designed to destroy underground weapon facilities and bunkers and the bill authorized $15 million for further studies. The fact that we continue to research and develop more weapons of mass destruction pisses me off bad enough but the real kicker comes in the last paragraph. The legislation authorized $6 billion for pay increases, new housing, child care centers, schools and other construction for the military. Now get this, the legislation also authorized $9.1 billion for missile defense programs! I don’t know about you but isn’t this backward spending. I spent 21 years in the military between active duty Air Force and Air Guard and I watched how people in the lower ranks had to have 2 jobs to make ends meet or their spouse worked. On most military bases the people in the lower ranks are put on a waiting list for base housing which last anywhere from 1 to 2 years or force to live off base. They are compensated for their rent but the allowance for utilities rarely covers the actual expense because the houses they tend to rent are older with poor insulation, I know because I lived in a couple of them. It infuriates me that the GOP continues to poor OUR money into more weapons and neglects the well being of the people. The men and women who serve in the Armed Force are living in very challenging times and yet they are not compensated for their hard work and sacrifices. The final insult to this misappropriation of funds, are the budget cuts to the Veterans Administration. I will continue to contact my state representatives and oppose the actions of the Moron. I am also paying close attention to the words and actions of Kerry, Dean and Kucinich the best three candidates for the Regime change. Tonight I will go home grab a tall boy and hopefully my new issue of The Nation will be in the mail so that I will have something intelligent to read. Have a drink on me ladies and thanks for throwing some laughter into the insanity that is taking place in DC and around the world.
Cheers
Scott

Dear Scott,
Bush has made this world a frightening place to live with his newly acquired playtoys.
Thanks so much for taking the time to write .
Here's lookin' at ya"

Origins

There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:
1. He called everyone "brother".
2. He liked Gospel
3. He couldn't get a fair trial.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was
Jewish:
1. He went into His Father's business.
2. He lived at home until he was 33.
3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his mother was sure
he was God.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was
Italian:
1. He talked with his hands.
2. He had wine with every meal.
3. He used olive oil.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a
Californian:
1. He never cut his hair.
2. He walked around barefoot all the time.
3. He started a new religion.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was
Irish:
1. He never got married.
2. He was always telling stories.
3. He loved green pastures.

But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus
was a woman:
1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was no food.
2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who
just didn't get it
3. And even when he was dead, He had to get up because there was
more work to do.

Amen!

Hello,

You said: "It has become a crazy world since Bush went to the US SupremeCourt to stop the counting of votes in Florida. It has been a downhillslide since that single event."I would say that it went downhill when the DNC cut Ralph Nader out ofthe debates the previous fall. By removing other candidates, Gore sethimself up for a simplistic GOPig polarity game, and didn't have Naderto scream bloody murder in Florida when no one else would (other thanthe Black Caucus and a few of us crazy protesters).By turning against democracy, the Dems got their arses handed to them byreal evil. It is a lesson not learned if the Supremes are given thecredit for destroying our democracy. The Democratic Party leadership did it----the Supremes just peed ontheir cowardly heads afterward.

Paul

Jeb Bush and his brudder stopped the counting of votes in Florida and had the US Supremes overrule the Florida Supremes.

Plus they had 60,000 legal voters refused at the polls. Nader could have screamed bloody murder election night and thereafter. He didn’t. A vote for Nader turned out to be a vote for Bush, just as this Democrat feared.

Sad but true.

The Democratic Party didn’t do these things. They gave us a good candidate in Gore—minus Clinton’s charisma.

Sad but true.

The GOP, Libertarians or the Greens can’t solve the social/economic problems of this country. Only the Democrats can-power is in the numbers and change can come from within more quickly.

Thanks for writing.

Dear Joe,

We are humbly at your service. We need to visually explain the hullabaloo of babble from the right. For us, it is less expensive than seeing a shrink and daily injections of morphine.

In your current posting you say:

"Today's cartoon was inspired by how the once great NASA has become NASA, Inc. over the decades."

Sorry, but you have been suckered by all the NASA hype of yesteryear. NASA has always been a mess. You need to study the history of NASA in the later 50 through the 60's. Namely, the failure of the early NASA booster program (they had to use Army and Air Force Boosters until the Saturn system came online), and the failure of Apollo 1 (NASA ignored warnings by contractors that a pure oxygen environment was extremely dangerous).

The Saturn booster program for the moon shot succeeded in no small part because the Germans, who were supplied by the Army, were in charge. The people who designed and built the engines for Saturn developed their expertise developing engines for the Air Force. Everyone cooperated because the Presidents told them to.

Naw, I don’t think I have been suckered by the NASA hype of yesteryear. We are able to contact each other at this moment because of the technology directly developed through NASA.

There are dopes in every field and NASA is no exception.

But this world has developed more in the past 50 years than the entire time man has been on earth--mostly due to NASA and the technology that evolved from it's research.

I grew up knowing NASA scientists as friends and neighbors. Safety was their number one concern. Political appointees and dopes push the envelope of safety. Not the NASA scientists and engineers who gave us this wondrous world of technology and communication.

My cousin worked on the Mars Rover battery system. Brilliant woman.

I was art director for Dave Battaglia who educated the country about the Gemini and Apollo Space accomplishments.

Sure, mistakes are made.

But we need devoted scientists and engineers to run NASA—those devoted to the advancement of man—not the advancement of cost cutting measures.

Thanks for writing.

This sites a nice try but a failure.

We all know we pay way too much in taxes.

We know an effective government can run on far less dollars than it currently receives.

We know of the totally ridiculous projects the government wastes money on.

We know that a radical downsizing of government has never occurred or even been proposed but is badly needed. When are we going to see tens of thousands of government employees getting pink slips? It needs to happen.

We all know the current tax code needs to be TOTALLY abolished and replaced with something simple and enforceable. That any tax reform not incorporating those characteristics is not real, just more lies, complexity and wasted money.

More man hours are spent on tax calculations each year than are spent on our country's entire production of cars and trucks. What a waste and you support it.

We've just observed leading democrats placing their acquisition of power ahead of the security of our families and our way of life.

Most of us don't make a great deal of money but realize tax cuts must be across the board to make any sense. You've underestimated our understanding of the facts.

Healthcare was more affordable and accessible 50 years ago than it is today. Government involvement in medicine has been the primary cause of this deterioration.

There's no less poverty in the country today than when your party insittuted the great society programs that have cost trillions of dollars to end poverty. About 10 times the projected cost

We know that the only thing government can do for the economy is to get out of the way and let capitalism, driven by free men and women, move us forward.

Guess what? You loose and so will the democratic party because you're wrong and most of us know it. And we vote.

Gary Redden
Destin, Florida

Gary, Gary, Gary,

This government was formed to protect the people and their rights.
Read the US Constitution.

50 years ago healthcare was a lot more affordable. I had free health insurance from the companies I worked for---it used to be called a benefit when companies wanted to attract the best workers.

Blame the drug companies for us paying the highest drug prices in the world. Blame the 5% of the doctors that cause 55% of the malpractice lawsuits---and blame the AMA for not yanking these guys licenses for life. That is why healthcare is so costly.

Government isn’t protecting the citizens from these obscene profit takers.

Capitalism has gone amok with the help of Ken Lay types perpetuated by the GW Bushes of this country.

And by the way…votes don’t get counted here in Florida.

Your sight of republican quotes is totaly vial. Perhaps you should stop brain washing the minds of people and quote the good things these brave republican presidents have said. This country is being run down to the shitter because of queer liberals like you people. You shoule be ashamed of yourselvs. Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, And George W. Bush are all extreamly wise wonderful men. You should not be putting out this smutt about them. They have said far greater things then the crap that is on your website. With out these men that you are dishonoring, this country would not exist. I will never ever use the google web site again. I will also tell other people not to use it because it is degrading. I hope your little web site goes to the shit house. You all are nothing. good day. sincerely,Brittany Smith

Dear Brittany,

Does your mother know you use that kind of language? Soap mouth washing time out for you.

The presidents you named:

Nixon: Led the break-in of the Democratic National Committee—Watergate, ever hear of it?

Reagan: Gave Saddam chemical and biological weapons via Donald Rumsfled. 32 of his White House staff pled guilty to crimes regarding Iran-Contra. Ever hear of Iran-Contra?

GW Bush: 1st president placed in office by the Supreme court. He can’t find Osama, Saddam, WMDs and now got caught in a big lie in his state of the union address.Bill Clinton and all Democrats in my many decades on this earth never did anything to compare to the above political crimes.
